The overall product of Bossanova is still a grand success, and the ability to conjure up three straight solid LPs in as many years is a feat of its own. Bossanova simply lacks the big moments that existed on their previous records to bring this album up to classic territory. The group should be commended for their willingness to change things.

Aug 07, · Following is the soaringly gorgeous "Velouria", then the second rock-out "Allison", and some familiar Pixies off-kilterness with "Is She Weird". The lilting "Ana" has one of the loveliest little guitar melodies I've ever heard, as well as some cleverly subtle key-modulation that speaks to Black's quite prodigious songwriting genius/5().
Album Rating: The Happening was like one of the first Pixies songs that I heard. I don't usually pick out individual songs to listen to, but I love the ride of listening to the whole album. First half is great but still some fun ones in the second half that were already mentioned earlier.
When Bossanova arrived in , it reflected the exhaustion the Pixies felt after Doolittle's enormous success: For the first time, the band seems to be running out of ideas. Tellingly, Kim Deal contributes no songs, having formed the Breeders to give her work an outlet; that summer, their debut Pod won a warmer response than Bossanova received. Arguably the Pixies' weakest album -- though.
